Wall of Flame
Welcome to our "Wall of Flame," where we showcase some of the items that have "sparked" concern with our customers!
Corrosion in service panel
Storm damage in meter socket. This occurred when a tree fell on the mast and the wires were pulled out and stretched.
Incorrectly installed stab-in breaker. Over time this can create a fire hazard as the breaker heats up due to the poor connection.
Wires wrapped in plastic bags. Wires should be capped with wire nuts to prevent a hazardous situation and all splices should be in junction boxes.
Breaker showing signs of arcing and fatigue.
60amp breaker with double-taps (2 wires into the same terminal), wrong gauge wire and broken handle.
A burnt outlet with incorrect wiring which led to arcing and damage behind the outlet.
The beginnings of a problem! The lower right opening with signs of overheating.
Melted duplex outlet. Replace ASAP!
Significant melting on duplex outlet, which is an immediate fire hazard.
Side view of melted duplex outlet showing significant heat damage
Burnt connection on light switch (blackened screw). This is from a loose connection which created heat over time.
Burned wire mold outlet and receptacle. This had live fire when the electrician was on site to troubleshoot the outlet not working.
Dangerous wiring in junction box (wires were melted and flame was present when wires were touched). This is an immediate fire hazard that was fixed during our visit.
Charred receptacle in a non-metal box. This is a fire waiting to happen.
A bad 100 amp main breaker with signs of arcing and years of exposure to moisture. The main wire going into the breaker was melted.
Main wire going into a bad 100 amp main breaker. The aluminum became hot enough to reach melting point, which is 1,221 degrees Fahrenheit! *661 Celsius
Chewed wires showing the extreme damage that can be done by rodents. The removal of the insulation on the wires is a fire hazard.
Open splices (no wire nuts, unsafe conditions)
Discolored outlet with signifcant signs of heat damage.
Combination of Knob & Tube wiring with newer wiring was causing flickering lights in a bathroom. The poorly done splices were hot to the touch.
Two outlets showing different stages of overheating - both were cause by space heaters. The next photo shows the connections and significant heat damage.
Two outlets showing different stages of overheating. The homeowner called Nordeast because of a burning smell. Just in time, too!
This is honestly...just old, ugly wiring! It's unraveling, broken and worst of all, unprofessionally installed.
